What does batch-level tracking actually mean?

Every item is tracked as individual batches, each carrying its lot number, expiration date, manufacturer, purchase price, and quantity. New batches are created when stock arrives on a PO; on dispense, the system records exactly which batch was used. The result is a complete chain of custody from arrival to dispense.

How does FIFO allocation work?

When a product is added to an invoice, Bittsi automatically allocates from the batch with the earliest expiration. If a batch runs out mid-dispense, it moves to the next. If an invoice is cancelled, allocated stock returns to the correct batches in reverse order. This is default behavior, not a setting.

Can I run audits without shutting down the clinic?

Yes. Bittsi supports both full counts and cycle counts (a category or location). Audit your controlled-substance cabinet every Friday afternoon without touching anything else. Advisory locking prevents concurrent modifications during an audit and submission is atomic.

Does Bittsi handle multi-location transfers?

Yes. Atomic transfers preserve original lot numbers, expiration dates, and purchase prices, so FIFO and COGS still work at the destination. Every transfer logs paired TRANSFER_OUT / TRANSFER_IN entries with full attribution.

Can I ask Sage about inventory?

Yes. Sage has full access to inventory data. Ask in plain English, "What's running low?", "Show me everything expiring in 30 days", "What should we reorder this week?", and get instant, contextual answers, including suggested POs grouped by supplier.

How are reorder alerts configured?

Each item has a minimum quantity and a reorder point. When stock drops below threshold, Bittsi notifies staff with inventory permissions in real time. Expiration warnings have configurable thresholds (30, 60, 90 days). Alerts go only to the people responsible for ordering.

What item categories are supported?

Ten veterinary-specific categories, Medicine, Vaccine, Food, Supply, Service, Lab, Continuous Infusion, Procedure, Diagnostic, Bundle, each with specialized fields and behavior.
